Program Description

Event Details

Diwali is the Hindu festival of lights with its variations also celebrated in other Indian religions. It symbolizes the spiritual "victory of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance. One of the more popular art forms from India is called mandala. In the ancient Sanskrit language of Hinduism and Buddhism, mandala means “circle.” Traditionally, a mandala is a geometric design or pattern that represents the cosmos or deities in various heavenly worlds. They are often thought of as a spiritual art form, exploring your layers from the outer to your core. It’s also thought to evoke harmony and balance due to its symmetric design. We will combine Diwali and mandala and practice some simple designs on clay diyas (tea light holders).
