SUNDAY, APRIL 23, 2:30 to 3:30pm
There are two great examples of the UrbanWood mission on display in the Public Library and visitors to the library between 2:30 and 3:30 will be able to ask questions and learn more about them from the creators.
• URBANWOOD 1 – John Giannotti, creator of the Hadrosaurus sculpture, will be on hand to speak about about his relief painting – “The Last Buttonwood” – currently on display in the Library. Created under the auspices of the Buttonwood UrbanWood Project, the painting is a tribute to two 300-year-old Sycamores that Quakers planted on Kings Highway East, a few steps from Haddon Avenue. The trunk of the tree in the painting was formed with bark that John harvested from one of the downed trees.
• URBANWOOD 2 – Denise Stuart, a past president of the Rotary Club, will talk about two mission-style tables that Rotary donated to the Library in December 2021. Custom-made from a 150-year-old Black Oak that was felled during a storm in June 2020, the tables are a fine example of the UrbanWood mission in action: “New uses for old wood.”
