Throughout the years, hair has been used as a tool of systemic violence in America against people of African descent who have been socially penalized and stigmatized for their hair in American society.  Today, hair discrimination policies exist to ameliorate these penalties, and present legal pathways for those who experience racial discrimination due to their hair.
